The responsibility of every Christian

James 519 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;  20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. 

Are we our brother’s/sister’s keepers?

Yes. It is sin not to be concerned about our brothers. Whether they are in trouble, lack or sin we must be concerned for our brothers welfare as God has been to us. That is the mark of our faith in the mercy and kindness of God. We should not be like Cain who killed his brother, or elder brother of the prodigal son who was unhappy that his brother returned, rather we should be our brother’s keepers.

Genesis 4 9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?

We see Samuel’s attitude towards God’s people, 1 Samuel 1223 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: 

Why we are our brother’s keepers?

Because the danger they are in

Many times we are not concerned about sin in other’s because we don’t realize the seriousness of the matter. But James shows us that when we convert an erring believer, we save a soul from death and hide a multitude of sins from the wrath of God. A believer that continues to live in sin can be damned. Sin is rebellion against God and to live in rebellion against God, after receiving the knowledge of the truth and the grace that brings forgiveness and victory is a dangerous thing.

James 115 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Romans 8 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Hebrews 313 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Because sin can lead to damnation the Lord will chastise a sinning believer, in love to save him and her from damnation.

Matthew 722 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Revelation 218 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

1 Corinthians 6 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 

That is the reason a sinning believer is to be disciplined, in order that his soul may be saved in the day of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 1130 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.  31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.  32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

That is why we are told to discipline someone who is erring when they refuse to repent

1 Corinthians 5 5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. See. Mt.18.17; 1 Tim.1.20

When we see our fellow believers sin, we must ask God to forgive them

1 John 5 16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. 

Because the Lord has been kind to us

Our Lord is constantly praying for us and watching for us. We should be doing the same for each other. In the last days the love of many will grow cold and men will be lovers of themselves.

Matthew 2412 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

2 Timothy 3 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves…

We should love the brethren and by this we know we have passed from death to life 1 Jn.3.15. If we have no concern how dwells the love of God in us 1 Jn.3.18. And can such faith without works save us? James.2.17. But if we claim we are God’s children and that we have tasted His love but have no concern let us beware, we are disobeying God and being totally ungrateful to Him.

1 John 419 We love him, because he first loved us.  20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?  21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. 

Let us love one another and care for one another and not be selfish.

Philippians 24 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Romans 151We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.  2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

Galatians 6 2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 

Because we have a common enemy

We know we are in a spiritual battle and we have an enemy that attacks us constantly. God has ordained a way of victory for us. And that is we gaud one another. Today someone else may be in trouble and tomorrow we may be in trouble. As the body of Christ we should help one another.Pray for one another. That is our safety and victory. A church that is made of of people who pray for one another can never be defeated. Are we praying for our brothers and sisters?

1 Peter 5 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Ephesians 6 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

That is why we are told to always restore others humbly, lest we ourselves fall through pride, because we ourselves are in the flesh.

Jude 122 And of some have compassion, making a difference:  23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Galatians 6 1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

1 Corinthians 927 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.  
 

We are hearing of the persecution of our fellow believers in various parts of the country. Are we concerned and praying? Are we crying to God to show mercy and help them in these difficult times?

Hebrews 13 3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. 

Dearly beloved let us love one another as Christ loved us and care for each other.

1 John 47 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.  8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
